Karate classes for girls in schools
Girl students in different government schools can now look forward in undergoing karate training in their schools as the government is planning to conduct the training programmes under extra curricular activities across the State. These training programmes are aimed at boosting the self-confidence among girls and also help them in their self defence. Special funds are allocated for conducting this training programme, said Women and Child Welfare Minister Sunitha Laxma Reddy, while addressing at the International Girl Child Day celebrations held at Ravindra Bharathi here on Friday.
The girl child population is declining across the country. The average girl to boys’ sex ratio was recorded at 917 girls for every 1,000 boys in the country. Enrolment of girls in schools is also decreasing and awareness has to be created among people about this trend, she said.
“Families should consider girl child as a gift and not as a sin,” said Ms. Reddy, while informing about the different schemes, including the recently launched ‘Bangaru Talli’ in the State.
