Andhra University has recognised the Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences at Sangivalasa as a research centre. With the recognition accorded to the ANITS, its faculty members were eligible to guide research students and students could be permitted to join the ANITS to pursue their Ph.D. degrees, its Principal V.S.R.K. Prasad informed on Saturday. Secretary of ANITS V. Thapovardhan and Prof. Prasad thanked the AU for recognising the institute as a research centre .
Teachers should continuously update their knowledge to keep themselves abreast with the changing times, said Satavahana University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K. Veera Reddy.
Addressing teachers at an orientation programme held at Kakatiya University here, he said that nowadays, students learn many things from different sources unlike in the past, where the classroom was the only source.
To be a successful teacher, he or she should learn more and give more to the student. “Students are good in academics but character wise, they need to improve. The teachers should identify this aspect and help students develop a balanced personality,” he said.
The three-day orientation cum workshop on B.Ed Model Curriculum-2013 was jointly organised by Kakatiya and Satavahana Universities at Fatima College of Education.
It was presided over by Prof. B. Bhadraiah, the registrar of Satavahana University.
Prof. Bhadraiah appreciated the participants for taking part in the interactive session. He exhorted them to be prepared for the new curriculum and go beyond the textbook to earn respect and love.
KU board of studies chairman, Prof. S. Mahender Reddy, who is also the convenor of the three-day programme, said the orientation programme was held to introduce the new curriculum to the teachers. Subject experts from the SCERT and faculty from various universities attended the programme.

Third- year civil engineering student of NRI Institute of Technology P. Roja Rani has been selected to participate in the ongoing south-India Inter-University Basketball competition. K. Pratap Reddy of the Department of Zoology, University College of Science, and Director, Directorate of Academic Audit, Osmania University, has been appointed Registrar of Osmania University. He replaces Prof. M.S.N. Reddy, who retired on Saturday.
Prof. Reddy holds a Ph.D from OU and specialises in neuroscience, fluoride toxicity and neurodegenerative diseases. He has guided 15 students for Ph.D and has done several projects including those from the UGC and the DBT. He also worked as Director of Admissions.
