ANITS gets research centre status


Andhra University has recognised the Anil Neerukonda Institute of Technology and Sciences at Sangivalasa as a research centre. With the recognition accorded to the ANITS, its faculty members were eligible to guide research students and students could be permitted to join the ANITS to pursue their Ph.D. degrees, its Principal V.S.R.K. Prasad informed on Saturday. Secretary of ANITS V. Thapovardhan and Prof. Prasad thanked the AU for recognising the institute as a research centre .

‘Teachers should help students develop a balanced personality’


Teachers should continuously update their knowledge to keep themselves abreast with the changing times, said Satavahana University Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K. Veera Reddy.

Addressing teachers at an orientation programme held at Kakatiya University here, he said that nowadays, students learn many things from different sources unlike in the past, where the classroom was the only source.

To be a successful teacher, he or she should learn more and give more to the student. “Students are good in academics but character wise, they need to improve. The teachers should identify this aspect and help students develop a balanced personality,” he said.

The three-day orientation cum workshop on B.Ed Model Curriculum-2013 was jointly organised by Kakatiya and Satavahana Universities at Fatima College of Education.

It was presided over by Prof. B. Bhadraiah, the registrar of Satavahana University.

Prof. Bhadraiah appreciated the participants for taking part in the interactive session. He exhorted them to be prepared for the new curriculum and go beyond the textbook to earn respect and love.

KU board of studies chairman, Prof. S. Mahender Reddy, who is also the convenor of the three-day programme, said the orientation programme was held to introduce the new curriculum to the teachers. Subject experts from the SCERT and faculty from various universities attended the programme.

Others present include Prof. M. Shivarathnam Reddy, IASE, SV University, Prof. Nimma Venkat Rao, Dean, Faculty of Education, Andhra University and the Convenor of EdCET 2013, Prof. M. Komal Reddy, OSD and Dean CDE, Satavahana University and Prof. N. Ramnath Kishan, Dean, Faculty of Education, Kakatiya University.

Workshop on entrepreneurship


A two-day workshop on entrepreneurship development for Engineering and MBA students began at the Mancherial’s Aizza College of Engineering and Technology here on Monday. The college roped in local industrialist Venkateshwar Rao, APITCO Regional Officer Giri as resource persons.

 

 

NRI student selected to represent JNTU-K


Pooja RaniThird- year civil engineering student of NRI Institute of Technology P. Roja Rani has been selected to participate in the ongoing south-India Inter-University Basketball competition. She is representing the JNTU-Kakinada team. The competition began held at Dr. NTR Health University from December 21. The college Principal R. Venkata Rao and Physical Director P. Goutu congratulated the student.

 

 

MBA students’ confluence


The Department of Management Studies, Laqshya Group of Colleges, Tanikella, will organise LAKSHWIZ-13, a State-level MBA students’ confluence, on December 20.

According to a press release, Collector I. Srinivas Sri Naresh will inaugurate the event at Laqshya College of Management at Tanikella in Konijerla mandal on Friday. District Industrial Centre General Manager D. Srinivas Naik will be the guest of honour. The State-level event will provide an opportunity for MBA students to showcase their managerial skills, creativity and talents.

 

Last date for AU research admissions


Candidates can get admission into M.Phil and Ph.D. programmes of Andhra University in its arts, science, engineering, pharmacy and law colleges under the extramural category, project fellowship and faculty development programme along with CSIRUGC NET fellowship holders and Inspire and Rajiv Gandhi National Fellowship holders.

Candidates must have 55 per cent marks or equivalent CGPA (50 per cent marks in case of SC/ST candidates) in the qualifying P.G. degree, Director of AU Directorate of Admissions O. Aniel Kumar said on Tuesday. The application form and the information brochure with details of eligibility criteria, admission procedure, etc., are placed in the A.U. websitewww.andhrauniversity.edu.

MEPMA scholarship


Applications for scholarship under the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) were invited for 2013-14. The application forms can be obtained from offices of the municipal corporation, village panchayats, and MEPMA, and filled-in applications have to be submitted to the community organisers, CLRPs, and mission coordinators before Tuesday. Students of 9 th and 10 th classes and Intermediate (first or second year) are eligible to avail themselves of the scholarship.

 

 

 

 

College wins laurels at ‘Yuvatharangam’


The Government Women’s Degree and Post Graduate College in Karimnagar town has won four first prizes in the “Yuvatharangam”, an initiative to create excellence in higher education, by the Commissioner of College Education recently in Hyderabad.

The College bagged the State best women empowerment cell in recognition of its activities for the welfare of women students.

The college also bagged first prize in kho-kho, first prize in highest marks in BA and History subject respectively. College principal P. Ramesh received the awards from Chief Secretary P.K. Mohanty, according to an official release here today.

New Registrar for OU


K. Pratap Reddy of the Department of Zoology, University College of Science, and Director, Directorate of Academic Audit, Osmania University, has been appointed Registrar of Osmania University. He replaces Prof. M.S.N. Reddy, who retired on Saturday.

Prof. Reddy holds a Ph.D from OU and specialises in neuroscience, fluoride toxicity and neurodegenerative diseases. He has guided 15 students for Ph.D and has done several projects including those from the UGC and the DBT. He also worked as Director of Admissions.
