‘Innovation is key for prosperity’

Innovation is the key for prosperity of India, said Ajay Jain, Commissioner of Technical Education and exhorted students to engage themselves to come out with innovative ideas. He was speaking after inaugurating a National Conclave on “Igniting Spirit of Innovation in Faculty and students of Engineering Colleges”, organised by Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SNIST).

Reminding Steve Jobs, who said that it was not the capital that makes an enterprise successful but the ideas that count, Mr. Jain said that students should strive to create rather than running after the exam scores. At the same time institutions must concentrate in research and consultancy and should not use their resources only for teaching.

He said the Central government was encouraging innovation and the National Innovation Council being established with fund of Rs.500 crore as seed money would encourage entrepreneurship. Prof. P.R. Naga Srinivasa of SNIST; Dr. P.Narasimha Reddy, Executive Director; Dr.V.Vasudeva Rao, Principal and Prof. G.Surender Reddy also spoke.

AWARD FOR GITAM STUDENT

 

G. Manikanta Aravind of GITAM University, Hyderabad campus, has received the Instrument Society of India’s (ISOI) DVS Raju Endowment Medal and C.Sitapathi Rao Endowment Award-2013.

He is pursuing B.Tech final year in Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering Department of GITAM University. C.Sitapathi Rao Endowment Award-2013 was also presented to Anusha Cherala of Bhoj Reddy Engineering College for Women.

SEMINAR ON COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

 

The Jagruti Institute of Engineering and Technology (JIET) organised a seminar COMSYS- 2013 recently. The seminar was organised by the ECE department in which scientists from defence organisations and engineering students participated.The seminar was inaugurated by JIET Principal Prof. V. Surender Rao. Topics on Communication Systems namely Digital Modulation Techniques, Sensitivity Analysis Methods, Noise Models etc were presented by scientists. Students also presented papers on Satellite Communications.

AUTONOMOUS STATUS FOR BVRIT

 

B.V. Raju Institute of Technology (BVRIT), Narsapur has been granted autonomous status for a period of six years from the Academic year 2014-15 by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

The autonomy status of the college would have more academic independence, more financial aid with timely funds from UGC and more freedom in framing new syllabi and conduct of examination.

KV STUDENTS SHINE

 

Three student of Kendriya Vidyalaya SVP National Police Academy won accolades at different competitions recently. Akash Yadav of class X participated in the Hindi Debate Competition in the Social Science Exhibition at the national level at Gwalior after bagging the first position at the regional level. Another student Neeraj Bisht of class XI bagged 5 gold, 9 silver and 3 bronze medals in the event of freestyle swimming at KVS Regional Sports Meet and other open competitions. He won a silver medal in 100 meter freestyle at KVS National Sports Meet 2013, held at Chennai .He participated in SGFI, 2013 School Games Federation Of India) in Pune .

A class IX student Nishant secured the third position in All India National Children Science Congress (Junior Level) competition, conducted by NCERT at KV 2 Bhopal. His project was on ‘vehicular pollution’. He was one among the 42 students selected from KVS to attend the International level NCSC Workshop presided by Padmabhibushan Prof. Yashpal at Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology, Bhopal.

CAMPUS RECRUITMENTS

 

Five students from the Sagar Institute of Technology were selected in the campus recruitment drive held at the college by Genpact. A statement said that three students from B.Tech and two from MBA stream were selected as Process Associates.

The students selected are Ajay, Shilpa, S.Padmini, Ms. Aneesha and C.Bharath. Dr. Ramesh, Vice Principal, Sagar Institute of Technology along with the Shanti Bhaskar Manager, Recruitment from Genpact issued the offer letters to the students.

LECTURE ON SPACE PROGRAMME

 

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) in association with Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Hyderabad Chapter, organised a lecture on ‘Indian Space Program: Past, Present, and Future – An Overview’, on January 21. The lecture was delivered by Satish Dhawan Chair Professor- Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Tiruvananthapuram and Senior Advisor (Interplanetary Missions) – Indian Space Research Organisation, V. Adimurthy

Dr. Adimurthy spoke about the successful journey of Indian space program and covered important milestones achieved in the field. The programme was presided by CBES secretary and correspondent D. Kamalakar Reddy. MGIT Principal G. Chandramohan Reddy. MGIT professor J. Viplava Kumar, INAE president K.K. Sinha, and CBES Advisor V. Malakonda Reddy also spoke.

ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATED

 

The Vignana Jyothi Institute of Arts and Sciences (VJIAS) celebrated its annual day presenting a variety of programmes. The Osmania University Registrar K. Pratap Reddy stressed on the importance of inculcating the habit of reading books. To excel in life, students should practice four mantras —Academic Excellence, Soft Skills, Attitude, and Ethics and Values, he said. Director D. Vijaya Prasad; general secretary D.N. Rao; VJIAS Chairman Narne Prabhakar and other spoke. Later, Prof. Reddy gave away mementos and certificates to the students who excelled in curricular and extra-curricular activities at the university level. Students also presented cultural programmes to mark the day.

NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON COMPUTING

 

GITAM University, Hyderabad campus, is organising a two day National Conference on “Innovations and Advancements in Computing” (IAC-2014) from March 28 to 29 to discuss and exchange new ideas of technological advancements and to present theoretical, experimental and visionary research result of all disciplines in Information Technology, said Ch.Sanjay, Director, Hyderabad Campus.

CENTRE FOR WOMEN DEVELOPMENT

 

With an intention to bring about the advancement of women in three communities – rural, student and the employed the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education inaugurated “The Centre for Women Development (CWD)” at its campus.

C. Suvarna, Special Commissioner (Watersheds), Government of Andhra Pradesh, who inaugurated the centre said that policies have their own limitations and beyond that it is the initiatives by institutions like ICFAI that can educate, create awareness and empower women across all strata of the society.

Guests of honour Vanitha Datla, Managing Director at Elico Healthcare Services and Sanjay Ram, Project Coordinator of Indian Development Foundation, enlightened the audience J. Mahender Reddy, Vice-Chancellor of IFHE spoke.

Creativity and Innovation are playing vital role in the present day technological developments, said Amir Reza, Director of International Programmes and Multi Cultural Studies of Babson University, Boston, USA while inaugurating a 3-day workshop on “Creativity, Innovation and Technology Entrepreneurship” at Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology (SIST) last week. Creativity is involved with thinking and Innovation with doing new things, he explained.

Aspects like success factors in technology based entrepreneurships and distinctive aspects, success stories of Google, Facebook, Twitter, among others, profiles of the successful entrepreneurs, and case studies of renowned entrepreneurs were discussed during the three-day workshop.

Dr. K.T. Mahhe, secretary of SIST, Dr. P. Narasimha Reddy, executive director of SIST and Prof. G. Surender Reddy, professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship participated.

Silver jubilee celebrations

Departments of Microbiology, Nutrition and Genetics, St Ann’s College for Women, Mehdipatanam, celebrated the completion of 25 years of establishment. Department of Nutrition had a recipe competition titled “Antioxidant rich recipe”. 110 participants from 9 colleges participated. Department of Microbiology organised a poster competition titled “Design a social network page of a microbe”. Department of Genetics organised a “Model making competition on Anticancer Drugs”.

A lecture was delivered by Dr. Mohana Vamsy, oncologist and MD of Omega Hospitals on cancer Awareness. Principal Sister Anthony Mary and vice-principal P. Amrutha gave away prizes to the winners.

IBM contest

B.V. Raju Institute of Technology, Narsapur won the IBM the Great Mind Challenge Project Contest 2012 and won a total of six awards in the event. The awards were presented to the BVRIT Team at ceremony IBM Innovation Centre, Bangalore on November 8.

The all girls team bagged the top girl’s team award. The team was judged one of the top 15 teams for best performance. The teams -Astonishing Dream members were Aishwarya P. and Deepika K., and High Flyers – Aurag, Harshavardhan, Lalith Varma, Aurag R. and Pavan D.Awards Day

Regency College of Hotel Management and Catering Technology celebrated its 19{+t}{+h}Awards Day with great enthusiasm and reverence with general manager of Taj Vivanta, Jaikanth Shroff distributing the awards to students who excelled in academics, sports and co-curricular activities.

Mr. Shroff urged the students to show consistency and competence in the area of interest. He also released the College Magazine ‘ECHO-2013’.

Bhikshamaiah, Controller of Examinations, OU and Krishnaiah, Additional Controller of Examinations, who were the special guests, said that honesty and discipline when inculcated at first year college education yield outstanding results. College chairman Mohd. Jafer and principal P. Ramesh Kumar Reddy were present.

Youth campaign

The Infrastructure Development Finance Company Ltd (IDFC) Foundation conducted the finals of their youth campaign ‘In Our Hands’ at the Methodist College of Engineering & Technology on December 5.

More than 2,000 students from 35 colleges participated in the competition, which was themed ‘environment land sustainability’, covering three major environment issues – carbon foot print, land and water.

MIC launched

A Microsoft Innovation Centre of Microsoft was launched at the Annamacharya institute of Technology and Sciences, Hyderabad. Mark D’Souza, director (Audience Marketing Microsoft, India), inaugurated the centre, which is a state-of-the-art technology facility for collaboration on innovative research, technology or software solutions, involving a combination of academic and industry participation.

The centre has been designed to enable students to be aware of the latest technology. College executive director C.Abhishek Reddy, principal R. Ramesh Reddy, director S.Naga Bhushan Rao and dean V.V. Ramana Rao were present.
