To mark National Mathematics Day, AP State Council of Science and Technology’s Regional Science Centre at Bhavanipuram on Friday conducted an interesting programme involving multiplications, tables, squares and magic squares.
Addressing the participants, Regional Officer J.D. Rao pointed to the fact that the day was observed to commemorate the great mathematics wizard Srinivasa Ramanujam and explained how the latter had contributed a great deal for development of mathematics. He said students must embrace mathematics and explore career options related to the subject.
Winners of competitions in essay writing, quiz and poster presentation were also given prizes.

Coming up with a new concept, artist Ramchand of Trishnaa-The Art Gallery will begin his 13 hour non-stop painting expedition (from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.) on Wednesday before inaugurating the painting show. The theme of the exhibition is ‘Different Strokes’ where visitors can browse through the works for four days from Thursday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Tarakarama Nagar.

A three-day children’s festival christened as ‘Khammam Balotsav’ got off to a splendid start at Manchikanti Bhavan here on Friday.
A scintillating cultural show featuring awe-inspiring classical dance performances by schoolchildren marked the opening ceremony of the three-day festival.
Drawing and fancy dress competitions were conducted later in the day.
A large number of schoolchildren belonging to various government and private schools from all over the town enthusiastically participated in the competitive events held on the inaugural day.
Earlier, Kothagudem Club secretary Dr. Vasireddy Ramesh Babu inaugurated the festival. K Hima Bindu, the convener of the children’s festival, and others were present.
Speakers at the inaugural function praised the organisers of the festival for their efforts to nurture and promote the inherent talents of children besides giving the tiny tots an excellent opportunity to unravel their creative flair.
