The ‘Annual Fest-2014’ got off to a colourful start at Alwardas Public School (APS) here on Thursday. Nearly 500 students from 10 schools are participating in the festival.

The three-day festival, inaugurated by Vice-Chancellor of GITAM University G. Subrahmanyam, aims at epitomising the essence of unity in diversity by hosting a row of cultural, sports, fancy dress and a host of interesting competitions. For those who gathered at the venue, it was a visual treat when the little ones of APS staged a classical fusion clubbing classical dance forms Mohiniattam, Bharatanatyam and Kathakali with other dance forms.

Students from other schools exhibited their skills by staging a sequence of classical and film dance performances. A total of 30 contests, involving students from Class I to XI, will be part of the carnival which concludes on Saturday. Children regaled the audience with their lively cultural show. What makes the fest more appealing is the add-ons introduced this year such as face-painting contest with global warming as its theme, crossword puzzle apart from little master chef and ‘Mr and Ms Fest’.

Correspondent of APS S. Vijaya Ravindra, Principal Harshalatha Chiranjeevi, treasurer S.P. Ravindra and board members A.S.N. Prasad and Krishna Rao, among other invitees stressed on the importance of participating in extracurricular activities. They felt that platform such as this helps in fostering healthy competitive spirit and teamwork among children.
