‘Special Olympics’ tomorrow
A district-level ‘Special Olympics’, a sports and games event for people suffering from intellectual disability, physically and visibly challenged people, will be held at Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium on Monday, Around 250 people from the district will take part in the event, according to Special Olympics Bharath District Area Director B. Jhansi Lakshmi here on Saturday.
She said that events would be held in athletics, badminton, football and bocce, a game in which noise-making coloured balls will be used. “Events like 100m, 50m, 25m, 4×100 relay, shot-put, ‘standing long jump’ will be conducted in athletics.” said Ms. Lakshmi. She said that the event was being organised under the auspices of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and among 150-odd districts selected country-aide in the phased manner, three districts – Adilabad, Srikakulam and Krishna – were selected from Andhra Pradesh.
