(TOP) CIAL’s golf facility has been elevated from a 9-hole golf course to one with 18 holes. (BOTTOM) The warehouse for duty-free products is big enough to take care of the needs for the next 15 years.
A slew of new projects are getting commissioned alongside the launch of construction work of a futuristic international terminal at the Cochin International Airport.
CIAL’s golf course will enter the list of elite courses in the country with the commissioning of its second phase development, elevating it from a 9-hole-golf course to one with 18 holes. The upgraded golf course will be inaugurated on Saturday.
The second phase has been developed at an investment of Rs. 15.50 crore and consists of 8 fairways and a 300-yard-long- and 120-yard-wide driving range. A key feature of the expanded golf course is a full-fledged golf academy set up beside the club house. It will feature three guest rooms, gym, party halls, living area, and snooker and billiards rooms. Two tennis courts and a multisport facility being constructed are likely to be completed in two months.
An Aviation Security Training Institute is another major initiative of CIAL. It will also be inaugurated on the same day.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) had been directed to set up Aviation Security Training Institute in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Kochi. The institute at Kochi airport was the result of two years of sustained efforts by CIAL and will involve an investment of Rs. 2 crore.
A warehouse for duty-free products taking into account the requirements for the next 15 years has also been set up realising the immense revenue contribution to the airport by duty-free shopsUltramodern racking system with an area spread over 32,000 sq.ft is one of the major features of the new warehouse.
Duty-free items shipped from abroad in containers would be moved to the warehouse where height of racks can be arranged to suit the container .
Four temperature-controlled chambers have been arranged for goods like sweets and chocolates in addition to another six such chambers. The warehouse is fully fire-proof and will be under the gaze of surveillance cameras.
