Squash champion honoured
Asian junior squash champion Kush Kumar of the Indian Squash Academy (ISA) was honoured by the Rotary Club of Madras Chennai Patna with the ‘Young achiever award’ here recently.
Brought up under a structured programme at the Academy with national Coach Cyrus Poncha and Technical Director Maj S. Maniam at the helm, Kush is proving to be one of the finds in the sport in India in recent times. He is the national U-19 champion but equally important is that Kush won a gold medal in the Asian Youth Games in Nanjing (China).
A bright student as well at the Seventh Day Adventist school, Kush’s life changed the day he decided to come over from his home town Dhampur to the distant Chennai. Thanks to N. Ramachandran, the current President of the World Squash Federation and man behind the establishment of the ISA, Kush was assured of a good living and education besides quality training. The potential in him should see this young talent move up progressively. Egyptian champion Ramy Ashour is his model and surely he could not have found a better player to inspire in his endeavour to become one of the top players in the world one day.
