Coffee Festival in Bangalore from Jan 21
More than 1,000 delegates from across the globe are expected to attend the fifth edition of the India International Coffee Festival (IICF 2014), the flagship coffee event in the country, scheduled to be held in Bangalore from January 21 to 25, on the theme, ‘The changing face of coffee’.
This announcement was made at a press conference in Madikeri on Saturday by Jawaid Akhtar, Chairman of the Coffee Board. The IICF 2014 would attract more than 10,000 visitors who would witness the products displayed by more than 60 leading coffee companies.
The Conference was being addressed by 40 global experts on marketing and production trends. Workshops on processing, roasting, and brewing would be held by leading global companies such as Pinhalense, Probat, Buhler, Bunn O Matic, Marco, and Kaapi Machines, Mr. Akhtar stated. Activities such as coffee awards, coffee trail, Barista championship, coffee quiz, and Launch Pad would be held to attract the youth, he said.
IICF 2014 will also be attended by national and international players in the coffee industry including policy makers, industry captains, exporters, manufacturers, and world leaders in the coffee industry. Coffee continued its transformation from a growth story in India to that of a commodity for growing investment, Mr. Akhtar stated. The event would help establish contacts between local and international entrepreneurs.
Outlining the current trends in the coffee industry further, Mr. Akhtar said domestic consumption of coffee was on the rise, which was a good sign.
It provided avenues for enterprise development through value addition while simultaneously contributing to the creation of skill-based jobs, particularly in non-conventional coffee drinking areas, he said. To facilitate entrepreneurial development, the Coffee Board had been holding training sessions on coffee roasting and brewing.
Anil Bhandari, president of India Coffee Trust, said the IICF 2014 was being held in Bangalore after four years. Leading international experts had confirmed their participation to address the conference and to conduct skill-building workshops.
