Kabaddi tourney begins
The Central Zone Inter University Kabaddi tournament for men began here on Monday at the Kakatiya University.
About 35 Universities from Central India are participating in the four-day tournament. At a colourful inauguration, the guests took guard of honour of the players at the University grounds.
Addressing the participants as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor B. Venkat Rathnam said that sports and games were also equally important to students just like studies as it induces competitive spirit in them. He exhorted the sports students not to neglect the studies at the same time.
The university was ready to provide all facilities to encourage sports, he said. Participating as guest of honour Warangal Urban SP A. Venkateshwar Rao said that inter-university tournaments was a platform for students to show their talent in various disciplines. Though India takes the second place with regard to population in the world, we fail to be in the Olympic medals list and youth has to strive hard to bring fame at international level, said University Registrar K. Sayulu.
Organising Secretary B. Digamber Rao said that the winners of this event would participate in the national tournament to be held at University of Mumbai next year. B Rama Swamy, Moiz Ahmed, P. Ramesh Reddy took part in the inauguration.
