People who visited the primary block of Nalanda Vidya Niketan on Saturday could instantly connect to their roots. The premises exuded the quiet charm of a village where things are a whole lot simpler. Hard work, simplicity and plain thinking reflected in every corner of the new set-up.
The event, organised as part of week-long Heritage India celebrations on the school campus, invited people to take a break from the rush of daily life and savour the relaxed ambience of the place.
The collective effort of teachers and students to capture the enchanting aspects of rural life paid off as the place emitted a rustic charm. The rachabanda (congregation of village people at one place), the country swings, the cloth-weaving looms, the pottery wheel, thatched huts, stretches of fields, Kondapalli toys, a pony cart, a bullock cart and a tractor dotting the sprawling ground lent an authentic touch to the scene.
Curious students had their doubts cleared by shooting queries on the different types of foodgrains and agricultural implements on display. The pony cart and the country swings were a big hit among the younger lot. A good number of parents visited the campus to be part of the celebrations.
The visitors could catch glimpses of the simplicity that rural life is all about. Materialism doesn’t necessarily translate into contentment. One can find happiness in small and simple things of life was the day’s lesson.
