Events galore ahead of Navy Day
A number of events are lined up leading to the Navy Day on December 4, starting with a painting competition for schoolchildren on Sunday.
The Eastern Naval Command has drawn up a string of events aimed at showcasing the ‘Silent Service’ and for raising awareness among citizens as part of the Navy Day-2013 events.
Even as the ships of the Eastern Fleet have started visiting ports to conduct Operational Demonstrations along the coast of Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in the run up to the Navy Day, a painting competition for children is being held at Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Sunday, according to a release issued here.
Over a 1,200 students, including those from schools for special children, are expected to take part in the event. A medical camp is being organised at the Prema Samajam as part of an outreach programme on November 17. A live performance will be conducted by the ENC Band at VUDA Park on the same evening.
Other events being held this year include a Day-at-Sea for children and media personnel on November 20 onboard ships of the Eastern Fleet. In addition, the ships will be open for visits by schoolchildren and organised groups on November 19-20.
The Navy Mela is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 21 and will be open to public from November 22 to 24. A visit to Naval Ships for special children is slated for November 22 and ships will also be open to visit by the general public on November 23 and 24. Two blood donation camps are scheduled to be conducted on November 27 and 30.
