Roller skating championship from tomorrow
The Second Sreeramaneni Sivaditya Memorial State Open Roller Skating Championship is set to begin on Thursday.
The four-day tournament would not have hockey as an event, due to some technical issues, organisers of the tournament Sivaditya Foundation announced at a media conference here on Tuesday. The event would conclude on October 27 to mark the birthday of former national roller skating championship S. Sivaditya in whose memory the tournament is being organised, Andhra University Director of Physical Education M. Syam Babu said.
From next year the championship would be a national-level tournament, S. Kodandaramaiah announced. This is the only tournament that is conducted on fixed days of the calendar, he noted.
The tournament would be conducted for different age groups from 6 to 16 and for above 16 years of age.
The competition would include Rink Races, Road Races and Artistic skating events. Last year the championship also had the Hockey event.
The Rink Races would be conducted at the Skating Rinks in the VUDA Park.
The Road Races for quads and inline skates would be held on the road opposite VUDA Park. Artistic Skating events would be conducted at the Shivaji Park.
Chairperson Visakhapatnam Roller Skates Association and championship director Saraswathi Devi, Chief Referee (Speed) K. Kalyan, coordinator for artistic events Sobhasree and coordinator for championship K. Gangadhar were present.
